Pu|lit|zer prize «PYOO liht suhr, PUL iht-»,
any one of various prizes given each year for distinguished work in American journalism, literature, drama, and music, established by Joseph Pulitzer and first awarded in 1917. Pulitzer prizes are awarded in such categories as the best play, novel, biography, history, book of poetry, editorial, news report, and cartoon.
